Spider-Man villain The Spot takes on the web-slinger in the first look at Across the Spider-Verse. Gwen Stacy invites Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s Miles Morales to travel into the multiverse to face off against The Spot in the sequel to 2019. Gwen and Miles will enlist the help of a variety of Spider-People, both new and old, in an effort to defeat the evil mastermind.

As Miles, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, and Luna Laure Vélez as Rio Morales lead the cast of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The animated sequel will also mark the debut of Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Jason Schwartzmann as The Spot. There’s still a year to go before Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters, but fans can already get a taste of what’s to come.

A new poster for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was unveiled by Sony at the Annecy Festival panel. The Spot, the Spider-Man villain making his big-screen debut, battles Miles and Gwen in a New York setting in this first look at The Spot.

Here Comes The Spot

As Dr. Jonathan Ohnn, a scientist employed by the Kingpin and tasked with recreating Cloak’s abilities, The Spot made his Marvel Comics debut in 1984’s Spectacular Spider-Man No. 97 as a character created by Al Milgrom and Herb Trimpe. To defeat Spider-Man in their initial fight, he would use a number of portals on his body, which he would later lose against him, to open portals to other universes. Both Spider-Man and Daredevil would have to deal with The Spot in the future.

Comic book fans will be thrilled to learn that The Spot will be the villain of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. At Annecy, Sony also revealed that the heroes will face skewed versions of The Vulture and Gwen Stacy’s father, police officer George Stacy, voiced by The Lonely Island alum Jorma Taccone and Joker star Shea Whigham, respectively. While it’s still more than 12 months away from the release of a long-anticipated sequel, viewers will have to keep an open eye for more glimpses of the film.
