Although they have long always been one of the most adored MCU characters, the Guardians of the Galaxy first found it difficult to team up with other heroes due to their remoteness from Earth. This is one of the reasons why many fans rejoiced when Chris Hemsworth’s Thor slammed into Benatar’s windshield in the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War.
Many were enthused about the potential outcomes, and Asgardians of the Galaxy was even suggested as a possible title for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in some theories. Unfortunately, the motley gang only had a little part in Thor: Love and Thunder’s opening scene, which sent the Guardians on their own journey as the God of Thunder set out on his own quest.
Many people have continued to hold out hope that Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy may reconnect in Vol. 3, but the prospects aren’t so promising.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor won’t be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3
The episode’s guest Clem expressed his displeasure that Gunn’s brief dismissal from Disney prevented the exploits of Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy from being covered in Vol. 3 and was instead included in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which was posted by @bss clips.
Thor was never going to be in Vol. 3, the filmmaker tweeted in response to the video. He said he “[appreciates] the love.”
Gunn previously admitted that he didn’t contribute much to Love and Thunder, but that he did offer advice on the Guardians characters and that he and the other director traded scripts during the production.
Why won’t Thor be in Guardians 3?
Normally, it’s impossible to believe anything an MCU director says, but Gunn isn’t one to mislead his fans. The filmmaker has previously avoided spoilers by using cryptic teases, but it seems that he is being sincere in announcing that Thor won’t be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The Disney+ Holiday Special should closely continue where they left off because Waititi and Gunn collaborated on The Guardians in Love and Thunder. While it may be disappointing that fans won’t see the Star-Lord vs. Thor dance-off that many were wanting to see, Gunn will undoubtedly have plenty more memorable Guardians of the Galaxy action to present.
Later this year, the Guardians of the Galaxy gang will come together for a Disney+ holiday special before Vol. 3 premieres on May 5, 2023.
